Join us for the first Assemble, Exchange of the year facilitated by Alicia Bickerstaff and Choterina Freer at GSASA. This cross-disciplinary peer crit series aims to encourage collaborative learning, providing a space for students from all programmes across GSA to engage in critical discussions and share ideas and references.

For this session, we will be looking at the exhibitions Re: Paint Fw: You by Sitian Zeng, and Street Perspective by Luke Aitken.
 

About Re: Paint Fw: You by Sitian Zeng: Re: Paint Fw: You - An exhibition of how Sitian Zeng uses painting as an approach to investigate ambiguous subjectivity in the digital age. Re: Paint resembles the iterative process of the image (i.e., painting) in the digital age and art-making process; Fw: You reflects the relationship among the painted, painting and painters (as artists and the audience). The exhibition presents two interweaving works: one shows the digital-related figures reconstructed in the physical paintings; the other shows how the natural objects have been abstracted in a digital way through the lens of subjectivity.

About Street Perspective by Luke Aitken: In this project, four individuals experiencing homelessness in Glasgow—Iain, Peter, Martin, and Florian—were given disposable cameras to capture their own perspectives of the world around them. Each photograph offers a glimpse into their unique experiences and environments, showcasing moments and views often overlooked. Paid for both their time and their work, their images invite us to see through their eyes, challenging preconceived notions and offering a raw, intimate portrayal of life on the streets.
